Neuroscience undergraduates typically engage in several extracurricular clubs and activities outside of their regular coursework. Examples of AEO might include research, teaching assistant work, athletics, fraternities/sororities, various GT clubs, jobs/work, VIPS, internships/co-ops, resident assistant work, clinical/volunteer work, etc. As a general rule, we recommend that first-year students (freshman or Transfers) taking 12-15 credits start with 1-2 (max of 3) extracurricular activities while they get settled into college life and the rigors of their academic work. Students can then add on new clubs and responsibilities overtime.
Within NEUR-UP we strive to provide students with a customizable degree that can be tailored to their individual career goals. AEO experiences such as becoming a teaching assistant, pursuing the research option or international plan, engaging in internships, co-ops, VIPs, and much more are made available to neuroscience students to help them reach these goals.
